First of all I would like to say, Alhamdulillah and Masha’allah! Welcome to Islam my dear brothers and sisters. I just wanted to leave this small note to you because after a lot of thinking I felt if it was important I reached out to my fellow new brothers and sisters in Islam. Trust me when I say, what ever difficulty you are facing, I can understand it. All of us have very similar experiences, and all of us are stranded, some more lonely than others. No matter. If anyone can appreciate the difficulties a revert/convert goes through, it is another revert/convert. So please, reach out.
If you would like to share your story, ask questions about what it’s like being a revert/convert, or just talk, drop me a comment here with your email address and I shall reply. You are also most welcome to share your story here.
I think one of the things lacking (at least in the South Asian world) is a community of reverts to help other reverts cope with the process of becoming a Muslim. I don’t mean about learning Islam and what it is (there are places you can get that) , but you can not find what it is to truly be a revert. There are some questions where you have to live it to be able to relate. For example, what do you do when your best friends are no longer your friends? What do you do when your parents feel like they’ve lost you? What do you do when you feel like you belong to neither the non-Muslim or the Muslim world?
Never underestimate the importance of having someone who knows what you are going through. I have met only one new Muslimah in my revert life of 7 years so far, and meeting her, talking to her, just sharing and exchanging with her was the most comforting feeling ever. So please don’t be shy 🙂
